Sri Vijaya Puram, July 31: The Directorate of Information, Publicity & Tourism of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration, in collaboration with the Department of Environment & Forests, will organise a ‘Rainforest Birding Trail’ at Biological Park, Chidiyatapu on August 1, 2026, to promote eco-tourism and raise awareness about the Islands’ diverse bird species and rainforest ecosystem.
The event is being conducted as part of the series of Tourism Fairs, Festivals and Events planned by the Directorate during 2026–27. The programme will provide participants an opportunity to explore one of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands’ prominent birding destinations while learning about the region’s avian diversity and biodiversity conservation.
The birding trail will be conducted under the guidance of experienced birding experts and resource persons, who will assist participants in understanding endemic and migratory bird species, rainforest ecology and the importance of protecting natural ecosystems.
The programme is expected to bring together nature enthusiasts, bird watchers, students, photographers, travel agents, eco-tourism stakeholders and members of the general public interested in exploring the Islands’ natural heritage.
For registered participants, the Directorate will facilitate transportation for 35 people on a first-come, first-served basis. These participants have been requested to report at the premises of the Directorate of Information, Publicity & Tourism in Sri Vijaya Puram at 6.45 am on August 1, 2026. Transportation will be arranged from the Directorate premises to Biological Park, Chidiyatapu.
Other interested participants who wish to join the programme can directly report at Biological Park, Chidiyatapu, at 7.30 am. The birding trail will begin at 8 am.
The Directorate has advised participants to wear comfortable outdoor clothing and suitable walking shoes for the nature trail. Participants have also been encouraged to carry essential items, including binoculars, cameras, drinking water, caps or hats and other personal requirements.
The initiative aims to encourage responsible and sustainable tourism practices by providing visitors with an opportunity to engage with the natural environment while developing greater awareness about the ecological importance of rainforest habitats in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The Directorate of Information, Publicity & Tourism has invited nature lovers and interested participants to take part in the programme and contribute towards promoting nature-based tourism in the Islands.
