Sri Vijaya Puram, June 25: A woman attending to her critically ill husband at G.B. Pant Hospital has alleged that she was harassed by a man inside the hospital premises late at night, leading to the registration of a police case.
According to sources, the incident occurred on the night of June 19 at the hospital, where the woman had been staying as an attendant for her husband, who was undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Sources said the woman, aged 32 and residing in the Garacharma area, was resting on a chair in the verandah outside the ICU after spending several days at the hospital caring for her husband. At around 9 pm, while she was covered with a sheet and resting, an unidentified man allegedly pulled the sheet, causing her to wake up abruptly.

The woman reportedly noticed the individual running towards the Out-Patient Department (OPD) section and immediately chased him. She is said to have intercepted the man near the OPD area and confronted him over the alleged act.
According to sources, the man denied any wrongdoing when questioned. The woman further alleged that he began making obscene gestures towards her during the confrontation.
She subsequently alerted police personnel deployed at the hospital premises. Acting on the complaint, on-duty police personnel detained the suspect for questioning.
Sources said that during preliminary inquiry, the individual disclosed his identity and residential details. However, The Wave Andaman is withholding the identity of the accused as the matter remains under investigation and no court has determined guilt.
Following the complaint, Aberdeen Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) in connection with the alleged incident, which reportedly took place between 8 pm and 9 pm within the hospital premises.
The incident has raised concerns over the safety and security of patient attendants, particularly women, who often spend extended periods inside hospital premises while caring for critically ill family members.
Police have initiated further legal proceedings in accordance with the law and are continuing their investigation.
