Sri Vijaya Puram, June 3: The Andaman and Nicobar Police formally welcomed Ravindra Singh Yadav as the new Director General of Police during a ceremonial parade at the Police Lines Parade Ground, where he outlined key policing priorities and called for a professional, accountable, and people-centric police force.
The ceremonial event marked the formal assumption of leadership by the senior IPS officer and brought together police personnel from multiple wings of the department. Addressing officers and personnel, Yadav set out his guiding principle of “Polite but Firm,” emphasising the need for law enforcement agencies to remain approachable and compassionate while enforcing the law without compromise.
Seven contingents participated in the parade, representing the Executive Police (Male and Female), Indian Reserve Battalion, Fire and Emergency Services, and Home Guard Organisation. The parade was accompanied by the Male Brass Band and Ladies Pipe Band and was commanded by Naveen Kumar. Senior officers from the rank of Inspector General of Police to Deputy Superintendent of Police, along with personnel from across the department, attended the event.
In his address, Yadav highlighted public trust as a fundamental requirement for effective policing. He stated that confidence in law enforcement can only be strengthened through professionalism, integrity, accountability, and consistent public service.
The new police chief also outlined the department’s operational priorities for the coming period. These include proactive crime prevention measures, intelligence-led policing, quality investigations, and enhanced engagement with local communities. He stressed that policing must continue to evolve to address emerging challenges while maintaining close public interaction.
Given the strategic maritime significance of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Yadav underscored the importance of strengthening coastal security. He called for close coordination among the police, Coast Guard, marine units, and other allied agencies to ensure effective surveillance and security across the island territory.
Technology-driven policing also featured prominently in his vision for the department. Yadav advocated for greater adoption of technological tools to improve operational efficiency and enhance public service delivery, indicating a focus on modernising policing practices.
He further reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare of police personnel, noting that a motivated, trained, and adequately supported workforce remains essential to the department’s effectiveness. He emphasised that the strength of the force depends not only on operational capabilities but also on the well-being of its personnel.
