Tree Falls Near High Court Road Disrupts Traffic, No Injuries Reported

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, June 12: Traffic movement along a key stretch near the High Court area in Sri Vijaya Puram was briefly affected on Friday morning after a large tree collapsed on the roadside along the route leading towards the Zilla Parishad office.

According to officials, the incident occurred during the morning hours, prompting an immediate response from the Fire Brigade after information about the fallen tree was received. Emergency personnel quickly reached the location and began operations to remove the obstruction and restore normal traffic flow.

Fire Brigade teams first focused on clearing the portion of the tree that had blocked one side of the road. Their prompt action enabled vehicles to resume movement through the affected stretch, reducing the possibility of prolonged traffic disruption during peak commuting hours.

Authorities said clearance operations continued for the remaining section of the tree that extended onto the other side of the road. Personnel worked to remove branches and debris to ensure complete safety for motorists and pedestrians using the route.

Police and Traffic Police officials were also deployed at the site to manage the situation and regulate vehicular movement while the clearance work was underway. Traffic personnel diverted and guided vehicles through the available passage to prevent congestion and maintain orderly movement in the area.

Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported in the incident. Officials also confirmed that there was no damage to nearby vehicles, public infrastructure or private property despite the size of the fallen tree.

The quick response by emergency services helped prevent further inconvenience and ensured that the affected road remained partially operational while restoration efforts continued. Commuters travelling through the area reported only minor delays as personnel coordinated the clearance exercise.

Tree falls are not uncommon in the islands, particularly during periods of strong winds, heavy rainfall or soil saturation. Such incidents can pose risks to motorists and pedestrians, especially along roads lined with mature trees. Authorities routinely monitor vulnerable locations and respond to reports of fallen trees to minimise disruptions and ensure public safety.

Officials advised motorists to remain cautious while passing through the affected stretch until the entire tree is removed and the roadway is fully cleared. Drivers have also been urged to follow directions issued by traffic personnel and avoid unnecessary stops near the work site.

The incident once again highlighted the importance of rapid coordination among emergency response agencies. The combined efforts of the Fire Brigade, Police and Traffic Police enabled the situation to be brought under control quickly, preventing potential accidents and restoring normal movement within a short period.

With clearance operations continuing through the day, authorities expect the road to be fully restored for regular traffic once all debris and remaining sections of the tree have been removed from the site. No further disruptions were reported at the time of filing this report.
