ATR bus skids off road in Lamba Line after driver brakes to avoid cow

Date:

Summary

A Suraj Bus operating on the ATR route met with an accident in the Lamba Line area after reportedly skidding on a slippery road during heavy rain. The driver escaped safely and there were no passengers inside the vehicle. The bus owner clarified that all vehicle documents were valid despite online records reportedly showing otherwise.

Sri Vijaya Puram, May 18: A Suraj Bus operating on the Andaman Trunk Road route skidded off the road in the Lamba Line area on Sunday morning amid heavy rainfall, though no injuries were reported in the incident.

According to information received, there were no passengers inside the bus at the time of the accident and the driver escaped unhurt.

Following the incident, the vehicle’s documents, including insurance and pollution certificate records, were reportedly checked online, where the system allegedly showed that the documents were “not clear.”

However, bus owner Sanjay Lall clarified that all documents related to the vehicle are valid and up to date. He stated that technical delays in updating online transport or challan portals sometimes lead to incorrect status displays even when the required papers are fully valid.

According to the owner, the bus had valid insurance, pollution certificate and all other necessary documents at the time of the accident.

He further said the incident occurred due to heavy rainfall and slippery road conditions in the morning hours. As per his account, a cow suddenly came onto the road, following which the driver applied brakes to avoid hitting the animal. The bus reportedly skidded off the road because of the wet surface.

No casualties or injuries were reported, and the vehicle sustained minor damage in the incident.

The accident comes amid continuing rainfall across parts of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, with weather authorities already issuing advisories regarding slippery roads, heavy rain and gusty conditions over the past few days.
