Major Road Curbs, Parking Rules For Republic Day Rehearsal & Retreat

Date:

Comprehensive traffic and parking regulations will be enforced in Sri Vijaya Puram in connection with the Full-Dress Rehearsal scheduled for January 27 and the Beating the Retreat ceremony on January 29, with authorities outlining diversions, parking allocations and temporary movement restrictions across key stretches of the city.

The arrangements primarily cover vehicle access to Netaji Stadium and surrounding areas, where designated parking categories have been introduced for dignitaries, invitees and the general public. Vehicles in the carcade of the Lt. Governor and other dignitaries holding GREEN parking labels marked “P” will be parked inside Netaji Stadium. Vehicles of other dignitaries carrying PINK parking labels marked “P” will be accommodated near Andaman Club and the parking area in front of SAI Sports Hotel.

Holders of “P” parking labels have been allowed to choose their approach routes but have been asked to reach the venue by 4.45 pm. Vehicles arriving after that time will be stopped at Gymkhana crossing, RK Mission crossing and Fire Brigade (HQ) crossing. Vehicles bearing “P-I” parking cards, including two-wheelers and four-wheelers, will approach the stadium through Model School, Clock Tower and Gymkhana crossing. After dropping guests, these vehicles will move towards designated parking near the Swimming Pool area, Rajiv Gandhi Water Sports Complex and Tsunami Memorial complex towards Digambar junction.

After the departure of vehicles parked inside the stadium and near Andaman Club and SAI Sports Hotel with “P” labels, “P-I” vehicles will be permitted to move to the main entrance of Netaji Stadium to pick up guests. They will then exit via South Hut Junction, Girls School crossing, RK Mission and RGT Road. Vehicles with “P” labels, after the departure of the Lt. Governor, will follow the route through Scout Hut Junction, Vikas Bhawan (ANIICD), Fire Brigade (HQ) Junction, Telephone Exchange Junction and APWD crossing to their destinations.

All other vehicles without parking labels, including two-wheelers and four-wheelers, will be parked near Girls School. From 4.30 pm onwards until the completion of the function, vehicles heading towards South Point from Aberdeen Bazar and vice versa will be diverted via Model School crossing, APWD crossing, Murugan Temple, Siddiqui Junction and Shadipur Junction. No vehicle will be permitted to proceed towards Aberdeen Bazar from any direction after the function until the crowd disperses.

Vehicular traffic will remain suspended between Y Narayan Junction and Dharamshala, Dharamshala to RK Mission, and Raj Niwas to Y Narayan Junction via Netaji Stadium between 4.30 pm and 6.30 pm to ensure unobstructed conduct of the events. The measures are aimed at maintaining security and smooth movement during the ceremonial proceedings.

In addition to road restrictions, private tourist boats operating from Aberdeen Jetty to destinations such as Ross Island and North Bay have been directed to shift operations to Junglighat Jetty on January 29. The temporary shift is intended to support maritime-side security and crowd management during the Beating the Retreat function.

Authorities have advised the public to plan travel accordingly and cooperate with traffic personnel deployed along the routes.
