Sri Vijaya Puram, August 13: The Andaman and Nicobar Administration has announced a comprehensive traffic management plan for Sri Vijaya Puram ahead of the full-dress rehearsal on August 13 and the Independence Day celebrations on August 15, with road diversions, parking arrangements and movement restrictions to facilitate the official functions.
The traffic regulations will remain in force during the full-dress rehearsal on Thursday, August 13, and the main Independence Day function on Saturday, August 15, around Netaji Stadium and adjoining areas.
Vehicles carrying the Lieutenant Governor, other dignitaries and holders of Green ‘P’ parking cards will be permitted to park inside Netaji Stadium. Vehicles displaying Pink ‘P’ parking cards will be parked near Andaman Club and the parking area in front of the Sports Hostel.
Holders of Green and Pink ‘P’ parking labels may approach the venue through any route of their choice but must reach the venue by 8.30 a.m. and 8.15 a.m., respectively. Vehicles arriving later will be stopped near Gymkhana Crossing, RK Mission and Fire Brigade Headquarters crossings. After the Chief Guest departs, these vehicles will leave through the Scout Hut Junction–Vikas Bhawan (ANIIDCO Office)–Fire Brigade–APWD Crossing route.
Vehicles carrying Yellow ‘P-1’ parking labels must arrive by 8 a.m. via Model School, Clock Tower and Gymkhana Crossing before parking on the western side of the main gate of Netaji Stadium and near the Swimming Pool. After vehicles with Green and Pink parking labels exit, P-1 vehicles will be permitted to collect guests from the stadium’s main entrance before proceeding through Scout Hut Junction, Girls School Crossing, RK Mission and RGT Road.
All vehicles without parking labels, including two-wheelers and four-wheelers, will be directed to park near the Water Sports Complex and Girls School parking area.
Traffic diversions will also be enforced across key junctions. Vehicles travelling from Aberdeen Bazar to South Point will be diverted through Model School Crossing, Bengali Club, Goalghar, Secretariat Junction, Police Line and Nayagaon. Vehicles travelling from South Point towards Aberdeen Bazar will use the South Point–Shadipur–Nayagaon Junction–Police Line–RBV–Secretariat Junction–Goalghar route.
Heavy vehicles, private buses and STS buses will not be permitted to travel towards Cellular Jail between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m. They will be diverted from Bengali Club Junction, while heavy vehicles will also be routed through Goalghar and Junglighat during the same period. After 8.30 a.m., no vehicle will be allowed to proceed towards the venue from Y-Narayan Junction, RK Mission, Fire Brigade Junction or Water Sports Junction. Following the commencement of the function, no vehicle will be allowed to enter Aberdeen Bazar from any direction until the crowd disperses.
Vehicles transporting parade contingents will drop participants in front of Netaji Stadium before moving to the Water Sports Complex or Girls School parking. After the parade concludes, they will return via Y-Narayan Junction to collect the contingents and proceed to their respective units.
Special routes have also been notified for vehicles travelling to GB Pant Hospital between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m. Ambulances and vehicles carrying medical emergency cases will be allowed to use the Y-Narayan Junction–Cellular Jail–GB Pant Hospital route, which will remain closed to all other traffic between 8.30 a.m. and 11 a.m.
The Administration has further directed private tourist boats operating between Aberdeen Jetty and destinations such as Ross Island and North Bay to shift operations to Junglighat Jetty on August 13 and August 15.
