The case relates to FIR No. 14/2025 dated November 29, 2025, registered under Section 20(b)(ii)(A) of the NDPS Act. The accused, identified as Prasenjit Mondal, aged 22 years, was convicted by the Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Sri Vijaya Puram, on April 29, 2026.

According to police officials, the accused is the son of Subodh Mondal and originally hails from Nafargunj under Jharkhali Police Station in South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. He was reportedly residing at Kaniga Hotel, Babu Line, Aberdeen, at the time of his arrest.

Police stated that acting on credible intelligence inputs, a raiding team of the Anti-Narcotics Police Station intercepted the accused near the exit gate of Veer Savarkar International Airport at Lamba Line in Sri Vijaya Puram.

During a search operation conducted in accordance with legal procedures, officers recovered 865 grams of illicit ganja concealed inside a carry bag found in the possession of the accused. The narcotic substance was immediately seized and the accused was apprehended on the spot after completion of all mandatory legal formalities under the NDPS Act.

Officials said the case investigation was carried out by Assistant Sub-Inspector Sanjay Yadav of the Anti-Narcotics Police Station. The investigation included collection of evidence, documentation of seizure proceedings, witness examination and timely submission of the charge sheet before the court.

Police authorities credited the successful prosecution to the detailed investigation and procedural compliance maintained during the case. The court subsequently convicted the accused and disposed of the matter in accordance with law.

The conviction is being viewed as another significant step in the continuing efforts of the Andaman and Nicobar Police to curb the illegal trafficking and consumption of narcotic substances in the islands.

Police officials said the outcome reflects the professional commitment and coordinated efforts of the Anti-Narcotics Police Station in ensuring swift legal action against offenders involved in drug-related activities.

The Andaman and Nicobar Police reiterated that the consumption, possession, transportation and trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances are serious offences punishable under the NDPS Act.
