South Andaman Schools Set for Primary Football League-cum-Knockout Tournament

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug. 4: Young footballers from primary schools across South Andaman will take the field from August 5 as the Deputy Education Office launches the Inter-School Primary Level Football League-cum-Knockout Tournament for Boys and Girls 2026. The tournament is aimed at encouraging grassroots sports participation while promoting physical fitness, teamwork and sportsmanship among schoolchildren.

The competition will be held from August 5 to 13, 2026, and will bring together primary schools from across the South Andaman Zone. Organised by the Deputy Education Office, South Andaman, the event is intended to provide a structured platform for students to compete while fostering holistic development through sports.

The tournament will be open to both boys and girls studying at the primary level. According to the schedule, matches will be conducted at Government Senior Secondary School, Bhatubasti, and the Government Senior Secondary School Girls Ground.

Besides providing competitive exposure to young players, the league-cum-knockout format is expected to help identify and nurture football talent at the grassroots level. By involving schools across the South Andaman Zone, the event seeks to encourage wider participation in organised sports during the early years of education.

The initiative also reflects the Education Department’s continued emphasis on strengthening sports culture in schools by creating regular opportunities for students to participate in competitive sporting events. Alongside football skills, the tournament is designed to encourage discipline, teamwork and physical well-being among young learners.

With participation from primary schools across the South Andaman Zone, the tournament is expected to provide students with an opportunity to engage in competitive football while supporting the broader objective of integrating sports into school education. The event is part of the Education Department’s ongoing efforts to promote active participation in sports and create pathways for identifying promising young football talent at the grassroots level.
