Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug 22: The South Andaman administration has directed its District Technical Unit (DTU) and tehsildars to expedite verification of village-level water supply assessments, with the exercise completed so far in 67 of the district’s 89 villages.
Deputy Commissioner Purva Garg chaired a meeting of the newly constituted DTU to review the progress of Jal Seva Aankalan (JSA) across South Andaman. The assessment involves submission of village-level Jal Aankalan forms through the e-Gram Swaraj portal, followed by verification by the DTU.
Officials informed the meeting that JSA had been conducted in 67 of the 89 villages in South Andaman. The DTU has the mandate to verify the assessments submitted through the portal.
The meeting also reviewed the status of water supply assessment in Mamyo and Loha Barrack villages under Chouldhari Panchayat. The two villages were jointly visited by the MP on August 13, 2026, and their water supply requirements came under discussion during the review.
The Executive Engineer of the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), who serves as Member Secretary of the DTU, informed the Deputy Commissioner that the estimate concerning the water supply works in Mamyo and Loha Barrack was under consideration by the Administration for obtaining sanction on top priority.
The review focused on advancing the assessment and verification process across South Andaman, including villages where the exercise has yet to begin.
The Deputy Commissioner directed DTU members and tehsildars of South Andaman District to verify the remaining villages where the JSA process has not yet started. She also instructed the officials to complete the DTU verification process for all 67 villages where the assessment has already been conducted immediately.
The directions place emphasis on completing both stages of the exercise—initiating assessments in the balance villages and verifying the submissions already made through the e-Gram Swaraj portal.
The DTU meeting was held as part of the administration’s review of the Jal Seva Aankalan process in South Andaman, with water supply assessments at the village level forming the focus of the exercise.
The administration’s review also brought the status of Mamyo and Loha Barrack into focus, where the estimate for the required water supply works awaits consideration for administrative sanction.
