Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug 22: Five residents were identified as presumptive tuberculosis cases during a health camp at Makachua, where the medical team of Primary Health Centre (PHC) Campbell Bay provided health screening, consultations and preventive-care guidance to local residents on August 20.
The Health Camp-cum-Ayushman Arogya Shivir was organised in the outreach area of Makachua with a focus on providing accessible healthcare services, promoting health awareness and supporting preventive healthcare among residents.
As part of the tuberculosis screening conducted during the programme, health workers identified five TB presumptive cases and collected sputum samples from all five for further testing and diagnosis.
The identified beneficiaries also received counselling on recognising TB symptoms, the importance of early diagnosis, timely treatment and adherence to treatment. They were also advised on measures to prevent transmission of the disease.

The camp provided a range of healthcare services to residents. These included general health check-ups, medical consultations, dental examinations and consultations, homeopathic consultations and health education.
Dr Juliet James, Medical Officer, explained the importance of maintaining good health and following preventive health measures during the programme. The health team also provided guidance on preventive healthcare and encouraged residents to seek regular health check-ups and timely medical consultation and treatment.
The programme placed particular emphasis on health screening and early identification of health concerns through outreach services. The TB screening component enabled the medical team to collect samples from all five presumptive cases for further diagnostic assessment.
Residents were also provided health education covering preventive healthcare, healthy lifestyles, regular health check-ups and timely access to medical consultation and treatment.
The outreach programme combined general healthcare services with disease screening and awareness activities, allowing residents to access multiple services during the camp.
The initiative also focused on strengthening awareness about TB prevention and the importance of identifying symptoms and seeking diagnosis at an early stage. Counselling provided to the presumptive cases covered treatment adherence and measures to reduce the risk of transmission.
The health programme at Makachua was aimed at improving access to healthcare services for local residents while reinforcing awareness of preventive healthcare, TB screening and early detection.
