Excise Raid at Shore Point: District Administration Seizes Illegal Liquor, Detains One

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, June 12: A joint enforcement operation carried out by the District Administration, South Andaman, and the local police led to the seizure of illicit liquor from a roadside stall in Shore Point, Chunna Bhatta area. The operation was conducted following credible intelligence inputs about the unlawful activity and marks the latest move in a wider crackdown on bootlegging in the region.

Officials from the Excise Department, in collaboration with local law enforcement, raided the location and discovered liquor bottles allegedly stored and sold in violation of the Excise Regulations. The suspect was detained on the spot and handed over to the police authorities along with the seized liquor for formal legal proceedings.

The case has been registered under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, along with relevant clauses of the Excise Regulation. Investigation is currently underway, with authorities indicating that further legal action will follow in accordance with the applicable laws.

This enforcement action underscores the district administration’s zero-tolerance policy toward unauthorised liquor sales and possession. Officials have reiterated that such practices not only breach regulatory frameworks but also pose significant risks to public health, law and order, and community safety. Unlicensed distribution points often escape quality checks and accountability, adding to the threat.

The administration has confirmed that similar operations will be intensified across other sensitive areas identified as hotspots for illicit trade. As part of its preventive strategy, surveillance activities have also been scaled up and are being supported by community tip-offs.

To strengthen public participation in curbing such violations, the District Administration has encouraged residents to report suspicious activities through the designated Excise Control Room numbers. Confidentiality of informants will be strictly maintained to ensure public cooperation without fear of reprisal.

This operation is part of a broader crackdown launched by the District Administration aimed at controlling the underground trade of liquor, which has previously been linked to social disturbances, health issues, and underage consumption. Officials believe that continued vigilance and community participation are key to eradicating the problem.

The latest enforcement action reinforces the administration’s commitment to maintaining public safety and upholding regulatory compliance in the district. With repeated offenses now drawing stricter scrutiny and legal consequences under updated national laws, authorities have warned of more stringent measures against repeat violators.
