Agriculture Department Trains 291 South Andaman Farmers on Digital Fertilizer Booking System

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, July 7: The Department of Agriculture has launched a digital outreach initiative to streamline fertilizer distribution in South Andaman, training hundreds of farmers on a newly introduced mobile-based fertilizer booking system aimed at improving transparency, efficiency and technology-driven delivery of agricultural services.

The awareness-cum-training programme was conducted on July 2, 2026, across 12 Gram Panchayats in South Andaman District. The initiative was organised by Agriculture Officers (Extension) along with Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) staff to familiarise farmers with the Digital Fertilizer Booking System.

According to the department, the programme focused on enabling farmers to independently access the mobile application introduced for fertilizer booking. Participants received a detailed demonstration covering every stage of the process, including farmer registration, Aadhaar authentication, fertilizer booking, One-Time Password (OTP) verification and other operational features of the application.

As part of the training, participants were provided with practical, hands-on guidance using their own smartphones to ensure they could independently operate the application for booking fertilizers without external assistance.

The programme recorded the participation of 291 farmers from different parts of South Andaman. Members of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) and Farmer Friends also attended the sessions and actively participated in the awareness programme.

Officials said the interactive sessions enabled participants to seek clarification on various aspects of the digital platform. Farmers raised queries relating to the rollout of the application, the registration process and fertilizer booking for cultivators residing in villages other than their own.

The department stated that the discussions helped participants gain a clearer understanding of the application and its operational features while improving awareness about the digital booking process.

The awareness programme forms part of the Department of Agriculture’s efforts to modernise agricultural service delivery by introducing technology-based systems that simplify access to government services for farmers. By promoting digital fertilizer booking, the department aims to make the distribution process more transparent, efficient and accessible for the farming community.

Through the training programme, farmers were encouraged to adopt the mobile application for fertilizer booking and make use of its digital features for future transactions. The department expects the initiative to facilitate smoother fertilizer booking while strengthening technology adoption among farmers across South Andaman.

The programme concluded with participants receiving practical exposure to the digital platform, enabling them to use the application independently for fertilizer booking and related services.
