1000 sq. m Government land reclaimed in Bambooflat as South Andaman intensifies anti-encroachment drive

Date:

The District Administration of South Andaman continued its efforts to protect government property with another phase of its ongoing anti-encroachment operation at Bambooflat village, successfully clearing around 1000 square metres of public land.

The latest drive, carried out on October 14, was led by revenue officials with the active support of local police personnel. During the operation, an unauthorised temporary structure erected along a public road on government land was dismantled and removed using excavators. The area was subsequently restored to its original condition.

Officials said the eviction was part of a sustained campaign to reclaim encroached land and deter future instances of illegal occupation. The administration has maintained a zero-tolerance policy toward such encroachments, reiterating that all violators will face strict legal action in accordance with the relevant laws and regulations.

The operation also aimed to ensure that public land remains available for legitimate development and community use, in line with the administration’s broader objective of maintaining transparency and accountability in land management.

Authorities have urged the public to cooperate by reporting any instances of illegal occupation or misuse of government property. To facilitate this, the administration has made available a set of helpline numbers: 03192-240127, 238881, 1070, and 9531888844 (WhatsApp). Officials assured that the identity of informants will be kept confidential to ensure their safety and encourage responsible public participation.

The District Administration has been conducting such drives periodically across the South Andaman region to prevent encroachments and safeguard valuable land assets. These actions are also part of a wider campaign to uphold the sanctity of government property and promote orderly urban development.

Through continuous monitoring and enforcement, the administration aims to discourage the spread of unauthorised structures and strengthen legal awareness among residents regarding land-use regulations.

Officials noted that similar drives will continue in the coming weeks in other identified locations where encroachments have been reported. The administration reaffirmed its commitment to preserving public resources for planned development and to maintaining the legal integrity of government holdings.

The Bambooflat operation adds to a series of successful eviction efforts undertaken across South Andaman, reflecting the administration’s consistent and firm stance on protecting public land from unauthorised use.
