Rangat, Sept. 28: Prolonged power disruptions in Rangat have prompted Zilla Parishad Member Tapas Roy to give the Electricity Department 48 hours to restore a stable supply, citing the impact of outages on residents and essential services.
Roy issued the deadline after inspecting the local power house, where the department attributed the disruption to a technical failure in a German-made control panel system. The affected GCP 30 Woodward system is preventing proper load sharing and synchronization between generators, according to information provided by the department.
The department has informed that a specialised engineer from the original equipment manufacturer’s dealer in Bengaluru is scheduled to arrive on September 28 to assist with the repair. Replacement components required for the work are also being sourced from Havelock.
Officials have assured that full-scale repair work is expected to commence by the morning of September 29 and that electricity supply should be normalised within 48 hours of the work beginning.
The continuing disruption has also raised concerns over students appearing for examinations. Roy has urged the Education Department to consider postponing examinations if the power situation persists until regular supply returns.
He also flagged the dependence of hospitals and communication infrastructure on reliable electricity, underscoring the wider effect of the disruption beyond household power needs.
Roy has additionally called on the Electricity Department to adhere strictly to its officially announced load-shedding schedule and improve punctuality and accountability among departmental personnel.
He warned that failure to stabilise the power supply within the stipulated 48-hour period would lead him to mobilise local residents for a gherao, or protest, at the power house.
The immediate focus now remains on the repair work and the department’s stated timeline for restoring reliable electricity. Residents are awaiting the outcome as the disruption continues to affect daily life and essential services in Rangat.
