Carpenter Arrested After Co-worker Alleges Attempt to Murder Over Work Dispute in Rangat

Date:

Rangat, July 26: A dispute between two carpenters over work assignments allegedly turned violent in Rangat on Wednesday night, leaving a 52-year-old man with serious injuries, including multiple head wounds that required 13 stitches. Police have arrested the accused carpenter and his wife and initiated legal proceedings.

The injured man, Nikhil Sarkar, a native of Ranaghat in West Bengal’s Nadia district, has been working as a carpenter in Rangat for the past year.

According to information received from sources, the incident took place at around 8 pm on July 23 at Sarkar’s rented accommodation in Rangat.

Sarkar alleged that he had known fellow carpenter Rajat Biswas for nearly a year and had frequently hired him as an assistant for carpentry work. However, he claimed that he had stopped engaging Biswas over the previous four days, which allegedly led to tensions between the two.

According to Sarkar, the confrontation began when Biswas allegedly started abusing him from outside his room. Following a verbal altercation, Biswas allegedly entered the rented accommodation carrying a mortar and attacked him.

Sarkar further alleged that Pooja Biswas, wife of Rajat Biswas, restrained him during the assault, causing him to fall onto the verandah. He claimed that while he was on the ground, Rajat Biswas repeatedly struck him with the mortar on his head, ribs, chest and waist.

The victim further alleged that after noticing he was bleeding profusely, the accused couple poured water on him and cleaned the bloodstains inside the house before leaving the spot.

A neighbour, identified as Biswajit Kharati, reportedly rushed to Sarkar’s aid and shifted him to the Community Health Centre in Rangat for treatment.

Doctors treated Sarkar for multiple injuries. According to information received from sources, he received 13 stitches, seven on the head, five on the left ear and one on the left hand. He was also treated for injuries to his ribs, chest and hand.

Rangat Police have arrested Rajat Biswas and Pooja Biswas in connection with the case. Further legal proceedings are underway.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. The allegations made by the complainant are yet to be tested in court, and the accused are entitled to the presumption of innocence unless proven guilty
