Police Rallies, Sports Drive Coastal Security Awareness in North & Middle Andaman

Date:

In a proactive effort to raise awareness about coastal security and fortify the connection between law enforcement and citizens, the North & Middle Andaman (N&MA) District Police recently rolled out a series of community engagement initiatives across the district.

The events, held across multiple police stations, included a cycle rally, bike rally, and a range of sports activities like badminton, volleyball, and football matches. These events drew enthusiastic participation from local residents, particularly the youth, and police personnel, creating an atmosphere charged with energy and inclusivity.

The core objective of these events was to underline the importance of safeguarding the coastline, a crucial asset for both security and the livelihoods of island residents. By bringing locals and police together in informal settings, the N&MA Police sought to break barriers, improve communication, and foster mutual trust.

The district police emphasized that such outreach programs are integral to building a policing model that is both community-focused and responsive to the unique security challenges of the islands. Coastal security has long been a national concern, especially in regions like the Andaman and Nicobar Islands that serve as key maritime gateways.

Officials pointed out that the active involvement of local communities significantly boosts surveillance efforts, as residents often serve as the first line of defense in spotting suspicious activity. The N&MA Police have encouraged citizens to share credible information about any criminal or illegal activity with the nearest police station or by dialing helpline numbers 100, 112, or 03192-273344. Informers’ identities will be kept confidential, and they may be eligible for rewards.

This community-driven strategy is part of a larger push to make policing in the islands more transparent, accessible, and effective. By combining security awareness with participatory events, the police aim to build lasting partnerships with citizens that go beyond enforcement to include prevention and vigilance.

The N&MA District Police remain committed to expanding such initiatives, reinforcing the idea that coastal safety is not just the government’s responsibility but a collective effort requiring active community engagement.
