Sri Vijaya Puram, August 12: The issue of expanding rural road connectivity in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands was taken up with the Centre after Member of Parliament Bishnu Pada Ray met Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in New Delhi on August 11 and sought attention to funding under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY)-IV for areas that still lack pucca road connectivity.
During the meeting, the MP apprised the Union Minister of issues relating to the implementation of PMGSY-IV, particularly concerning the construction of new roads in rural areas where no permanent roads currently exist.
According to the information shared, the Union Minister stated that a meeting would be convened shortly in New Delhi to discuss the matter. The proposed meeting is expected to be attended by officials of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration, representatives of the Ministry and the Member of Parliament.
The discussion will focus on issues related to PMGSY-IV with the objective of securing additional funds for the construction of rural roads in the Islands.
The meeting assumes significance as rural road connectivity remains a key component of infrastructure development, particularly in areas that do not have pucca road access. The forthcoming discussions are expected to examine the funding requirements for road construction under the PMGSY-IV framework.
Following the interaction, the MP expressed thanks to the Union Rural Development Minister for his response to the issues raised during the meeting.
The proposed meeting in New Delhi is expected to bring together the concerned stakeholders from the Union Territory Administration and the Ministry to deliberate on the matter and explore the possibility of additional financial support for rural road projects under PMGSY-IV in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
