Graveyard Murder Cracked Within Hours as Pahargaon Police Use Technical Intelligence to Trace Two Accused

Investigators combined mobile phone analysis, witness accounts and informer inputs to solve Dollygunj graveyard killing case

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, May 25: The Andaman and Nicobar Police has solved the murder case reported from the Christian Graveyard area at Dollygunj within hours of the body being discovered, with investigators relying on criminal profiling, mobile phone intelligence, witness examination and local informer networks to trace and arrest two accused allegedly involved in the killing.

According to police, the body of V. Shankar, 36, a resident of Garacharma, was found lying inside the Christian Graveyard area at Dollygunj on the morning of May 24 after Pahargaon Police Station received information at around 9.15 am regarding the incident.

Police said a murder investigation was immediately launched after preliminary examination of the scene suggested assault-related injuries.

During the probe, investigators reconstructed the victim’s final movements through local enquiries and technical analysis. Officials said police teams gathered information from people who had seen the deceased on the previous night and identified a group that had been consuming alcohol at a shed inside the graveyard premises.

Investigators found that the deceased had allegedly consumed alcohol with acquaintances on the night of May 23. During the course of profiling individuals linked to the gathering, police learned that two men who had recently arrived from Mayabunder were also present at the spot.

Police sources said investigators then relied on a combination of witness statements, local informer inputs and mobile phone-based technical intelligence to track the movements and associations of the suspects after the incident.

According to the investigation, an altercation allegedly broke out after the deceased objected to the presence of the two men at the graveyard shed. Police said the confrontation escalated when the victim allegedly assaulted one of them.

Investigators alleged that the two accused retaliated by attacking the victim with fists and kicks. The accused allegedly fled from the scene after the victim fell unconscious.

Officials said police teams worked continuously through the day to identify and trace the suspects before eventually apprehending K. Krishna and Sagar Kumar in connection with the case.

Police said both accused have reportedly confessed to their involvement during interrogation. Investigators have also seized blood-stained wearing apparel believed to be linked to the assault as part of the evidence collection process.

A case has been registered under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Pahargaon Police Station and further investigation is continuing.

Police officials said the swift breakthrough was made possible through coordinated field investigation, rapid evidence gathering and technical analysis. Investigators reportedly analysed communication patterns and movement details obtained during the probe while simultaneously questioning potential witnesses and developing leads through local intelligence sources.

The investigation team was led by Inspector Sahil and included SI Regan, SI Manish, SI Nirmala, ASI Semaiah, ASI Mohd Ali, ASI Ajay Anand and Head Constables Santosh, Jayraj and Samsu.

The case has once again highlighted the increasing use of technical intelligence and behavioural profiling techniques in criminal investigations in the islands, particularly in cases where suspects attempt to flee or avoid immediate identification after violent crimes.

Police officials have not disclosed further operational details of the technical surveillance process, citing the ongoing investigation.

Authorities said further forensic and evidentiary procedures are being carried out as part of the investigation process.
