Drug Trafficking Under Scanner After 4 Kg Suspected Ganja Seized in Ograbraj

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug. 1: A 37-year-old man was arrested after police seized 4 kilograms of suspected ganja during a late-night operation in Ograbraj, with investigators now examining the origin of the contraband and possible links to a wider narcotics supply network.

According to police, the seizure was made at around 10 p.m. near Government Middle School, Ograbraj, when a police team intercepted a man carrying a white plastic bag during routine action. The individual identified himself as Mainur Mandal, a native of Makra in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, who is currently residing at Ograbraj.

During the search, officers recovered a white plastic bag containing a carton box. Inside the box were 40 small packets wrapped in carbon paper and cello tape. On opening the packets, police found approximately 4 kilograms of suspected ganja.

The seized substance was taken into custody after all prescribed legal formalities were completed in the presence of witnesses, police said.

Following the recovery, Mainur Mandal was detained at the spot and subsequently arrested. Police also informed his wife, Mamoni Mandal, about the arrest over the telephone.

Investigators have launched a probe to determine the source of the seized suspected ganja and ascertain whether the accused had any connection with a larger drug trafficking network. Police said further legal proceedings in the case are underway.

The latest seizure forms part of ongoing efforts to curb the illegal movement of narcotic substances in the Islands. However, police have not disclosed additional details regarding the investigation, stating that inquiries into the source of the contraband and possible involvement of other individuals are continuing.

The case remains under investigation, with authorities expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the seizure and pursue further action based on the outcome of the probe.
