Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug. 1: Two persons have been arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, after police seized about 183 grams of suspected ganja in two separate operations carried out in North and Middle Andaman district. The cases are being investigated to identify the source of the contraband and any wider links to the illegal narcotics trade.
According to police, the seizures were made in separate operations conducted by Police Station Kalighat and Police Station Billiground within a span of two days. The combined quantity of the suspected ganja recovered from both operations was approximately 183 grams.
In the first case, a police team from Police Station Kalighat conducted a raid at Kishorinagar on July 28 after receiving specific intelligence. The operation was led by Sub-Inspector Shibendra Nath Halder, Station House Officer of Police Station Kalighat. During the raid, the team intercepted a suspect at Kishorinagar and recovered approximately 50 grams of suspected ganja from his possession.
In the second operation, carried out on July 30, a team from Police Station Billiground intercepted another suspect near Shantipur. Police said approximately 133 grams of suspected ganja were recovered from the individual’s possession during the operation.
In both cases, the suspected contraband was seized and the accused were arrested after completing the required legal formalities under the provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985.
Police said further investigation is in progress to trace the origin of the seized contraband and identify other persons who may be connected to the alleged narcotics network.
The operations were conducted under the supervision of Rahul Vikram, DANIPS, Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Diglipur, and Mahendra Singh Charan, DANIPS, Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Rangat. Overall supervision was provided by Vikas Swami, IPS, Superintendent of Police, North and Middle Andaman District.
Police have appealed to the public to report information related to illegal narcotics or other unlawful activities to the nearest police station or through the emergency helpline numbers 100 and 112. According to the police, the identities of informants will be kept confidential, and suitable rewards will be provided for actionable information.
The investigation into both NDPS cases remains ongoing.
