Outreach drive and grievance camp boost grassroots governance in NMA

Governance delivery in North and Middle Andaman received a renewed push this week as the District Administration conducted a major village outreach drive and a public grievance redressal camp under the ongoing “Sampark se Samadhan – Prashasan Gaon ki Ore” initiative. The coordinated effort, covering seven villages and a large public hearing in Rangat, marked a significant expansion of the administration’s attempt to strengthen on-the-ground engagement and provide timely solutions to citizen concerns.

The outreach began with a day-long visit across Sabari, Bharatpur, Vishnupur, Bakultala, Shyamkund, Urmilapur and Kalsi villages. The Deputy Commissioner, accompanied by senior officers from the Middle Andaman administration, visited households and met residents to understand local concerns first-hand. Officials examined issues related to road connectivity, water supply, health infrastructure, school facilities, civil supplies and public amenities. Several of these concerns were taken up immediately by the line departments present during the visit, and on-the-spot solutions were facilitated in cases where quick action was feasible.

The administration said the outreach aims to reduce the gap between rural communities and government institutions by taking services directly to households rather than relying solely on petitions or office visits. Officials added that such field-level interactions allow departments to assess issues more accurately, verify grievances and ensure quicker follow-up. The drive is set to continue in the coming months, covering all remaining villages in the district to ensure every household has direct access to the administration.

Alongside the village outreach, a public grievance redressal camp was held at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Auditorium in Rangat. The event drew around 400 citizens and brought together senior officials, panchayat representatives and members of various departments. The camp facilitated immediate processing of several pending matters, including revenue-related cases. Thirteen subdivision cases and 28 name correction applications were approved during the Revenue Camp Court, while multiple diversion and mutation matters were resolved and updated in revenue records, offering instant relief to applicants.

Residents raised a wide range of issues, from road conditions and healthcare access to school infrastructure and civil supplies distribution, particularly in remote villages. Among these concerns was the condition of the Purana Thana–Rangat road, a decades-old stretch requiring attention. The Deputy Commissioner assured participants that the road would be inspected during his upcoming field visit. Officials also discussed shortages of specialist doctors and delays in civil supplies delivery, with the administration stating that these concerns would be escalated appropriately for early resolution.

The grievance camp also emphasised direct interaction between citizens and government departments. Officials from the forest, education, police, health and civil supplies departments attended the session and were directed to take timely action. The administration reiterated that monitoring of follow-up measures would be carried out to ensure that critical issues receive sustained attention.

As part of the broader initiative, the district administration will continue door-to-door visits in addition to public grievance camps. Officials said the two-pronged approach, regular household visits and periodic community hearings, strengthens the delivery of essential services while building trust between the administration and rural communities. They noted that the model helps identify service gaps early, enables quicker decision-making and ensures that citizens do not have to navigate long bureaucratic channels for basic issues.

With the initiative expected to cover all villages over the next few months, the administration maintains that the goal is to ensure governance reaches every doorstep. Through immediate redressal mechanisms, increased field presence and sustained follow-up, the Sampark se Samadhan programme continues to expand its reach across North and Middle Andaman, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to inclusive and responsive governance.
