Nicobar Police Crack Down on Illegal Liquor Network in Kamorta

Date:

Kamorta, June 1: Nicobar Police have intensified efforts against illegal liquor activities after an excise operation in Kamorta resulted in the seizure of illicit liquor and the destruction of a large quantity of material used for unlawful alcohol production.

The action was carried out by the Excise Team of Police Station Nancowrie during routine patrolling and excise checking at Chota Enaka, Kamorta, on Saturday. During the operation, officials detected and seized 1.2 litres of illicit liquor from a suspect found in possession of the contraband.

Following the recovery, the excise team initiated legal proceedings against the individual under the relevant provisions of law. Officials stated that the seizure forms part of ongoing enforcement measures aimed at curbing the manufacture, possession and circulation of illicit liquor in the Nicobar Islands.

The operation expanded beyond the initial recovery when excise personnel conducted further searches in the nearby jungle area. During the search, the team discovered approximately 100 litres of lahan, a fermented substance commonly used in the production of illicit liquor.

To prevent its use in unlawful brewing activities, the lahan was destroyed on the spot by the excise team. The destruction of the material was carried out as a preventive measure to disrupt illegal liquor manufacturing and restrict the availability of raw materials used in the process.

Police officials said enforcement agencies continue to maintain vigilance against illicit liquor operations, which pose legal, social and public safety concerns. Regular patrolling and targeted excise checks are being conducted in various locations as part of sustained efforts to detect and prevent such activities.

Nicobar Police reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order and taking strict action against individuals involved in illegal liquor-related offences. Authorities also appealed to residents to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by sharing information regarding unlawful activities in their localities.

Officials assured that prompt action would be taken on credible information received from the public. They emphasized that community participation remains an important component of efforts to prevent illegal activities and strengthen public safety.

The latest seizure and destruction of brewing material underscore ongoing enforcement measures being undertaken by Nicobar Police to curb illicit liquor activities and promote a law-abiding environment across the Nicobar Islands.
