Mayabunder, May 5: A smartphone reported missing during Diwali last year has been traced and recovered by Police Station Mayabunder, following a complaint registered through the official lost report mechanism.
The device, which had remained untraced for several months, was located after the owner filed a complaint on the Lost Report Portal. Police initiated tracking through the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) system, enabling identification and recovery of the handset.
According to officials, the complaint triggered a digital tracking process that led to the eventual recovery of the mobile phone. The device was subsequently returned to its owner after verification procedures were completed.

The case highlights the use of online reporting systems and tracking platforms in addressing mobile loss complaints. Authorities stated that such systems allow for systematic tracing of devices using unique identification data, improving the chances of recovery over time.
Police in the North and Middle Andaman district indicated that complaints registered through the designated portal are processed and monitored as part of standard procedure. The use of the CEIR platform plays a role in tracking devices that have been lost or reported missing.
The incident also underscores the importance of timely reporting in cases of mobile loss. Officials advised the public to register complaints on the Lost Report Portal and inform the nearest police station to initiate tracking measures.
The Lost Report Portal is accessible at https://lostreport.andamannicobar.gov.in/, where individuals can submit details of missing devices. The system is designed to streamline the reporting process and assist law enforcement agencies in tracing lost or stolen mobile phones.
Authorities reiterated that reporting through official channels enables coordinated action and increases the likelihood of recovery, particularly in cases where devices are linked to identifiable data within national tracking systems.
The recovery in this instance follows a prolonged gap between the reported loss and the tracing of the device, reflecting the continued tracking process undertaken after the complaint was filed.
Police officials maintained that such cases are handled as part of routine public service operations, with emphasis on adherence to reporting procedures and use of available technological tools for investigation.
