Kadamtala, May 21: A recently completed rural road near Primary School Bamboo Tikri in Kadamtala has fallen into a state of disrepair, with residents alleging lack of maintenance under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) and raising parallel concerns over a worsening electricity crisis in the area.
Locals say the road, completed nearly a year ago, has developed multiple large potholes, particularly after the onset of the monsoon, making daily commuting difficult and unsafe. The project was executed under the supervision of M/s Ravi Realcons Private Limited, but residents allege that no visible maintenance work has been carried out since completion.
According to local Pradhan Nilawati Parh, the deteriorating road condition has disrupted routine transport services, with auto-rickshaws reportedly refusing to operate on the stretch due to safety concerns. She said school students, elderly residents and daily commuters are facing increasing hardship while travelling for education, healthcare and essential services.

A maintenance board installed at the site indicates that the road is covered under a five-year Defect Liability Period (DLP), during which the contractor is responsible for regular upkeep. The listed responsibilities include pothole repairs, crack sealing, drainage maintenance and roadside improvements at scheduled intervals. However, residents claim that none of these maintenance activities have been undertaken.
Attempts by locals to contact the contractor have reportedly failed, with no response received despite repeated efforts. The absence of timely intervention has further aggravated the situation, particularly during the rainy season when road conditions have worsened significantly.
In addition to the road issue, residents have flagged persistent electricity disruptions in Kadamtala, stating that prolonged power cuts have become a daily occurrence. According to locals, electricity remains unavailable for extended hours, affecting households and essential activities.
Residents also raised concerns over the functioning of diesel generator sets in the region. They alleged that the DG set installed in Kadamtala is being used to supply electricity to Baratang, while the local area continues to face outages. At the same time, the DG set at Baratang, though relatively new, is reportedly not operational, further complicating power supply management.
Locals say the combined impact of poor road infrastructure and unreliable electricity supply has severely affected quality of life in the area. They have called upon the concerned authorities to conduct an immediate inspection of the damaged road and initiate necessary repair and maintenance work under PMGSY provisions.
Residents have also urged authorities to address the electricity crisis on priority, ensuring that Kadamtala receives uninterrupted power supply and that available infrastructure is utilised effectively to meet local needs.
