Sailing Schedule of MV Kalighat, MV Sentinel Revised

Date:

Summary

The Directorate of Shipping Services has revised the sailing schedules of MV Kalighat and MV Sentinel due to administrative reasons. The changes will affect routes connecting Sri Vijaya Puram, Car Nicobar and Little Andaman.

Sri Vijaya Puram, May 21: The Directorate of Shipping Services has revised the sailing schedules of two inter-island vessels operating between Sri Vijaya Puram, Car Nicobar and Little Andaman due to administrative reasons.

According to the revised schedule issued on Tuesday, MV Kalighat will now sail for Car Nicobar via Little Andaman on May 21 at 9 pm instead of its earlier scheduled departure at 7 am from Sri Vijaya Puram.

Officials stated that the vessel will undertake its return journey from Car Nicobar on May 22 at 6 pm via the same route to Sri Vijaya Puram.

Similarly, the sailing schedule of MV Sentinel has also been modified.

The vessel will now sail for Little Andaman from Sri Vijaya Puram on May 22 at 9 pm.

Its return sailing from Little Andaman to Sri Vijaya Puram has been rescheduled to May 23 at 8 pm instead of the previously announced timing of 8 am on the same day.

Officials said the changes were made due to administrative reasons, though no further details regarding the revision were specified in the announcement.

The Directorate periodically revises vessel schedules depending on operational requirements, weather conditions, passenger demand and administrative considerations.

Inter-island shipping services remain a critical mode of transportation in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, particularly for residents travelling between remote islands and the capital region.

Passenger vessels such as MV Kalighat and MV Sentinel are widely used for movement of residents, government personnel, essential supplies and cargo between islands.

Schedule revisions often impact travel plans of passengers and movement of goods, especially on routes connecting remote island regions including Car Nicobar and Little Andaman.

The revised timings have been communicated for information of passengers and the general public to avoid inconvenience during travel.

The Directorate has advised passengers to remain updated regarding vessel schedules and operational announcements, particularly during the monsoon period when weather-related disruptions can affect inter-island shipping services.

The Administration has also been issuing periodic weather advisories in view of rough sea conditions and strong winds forecast over parts of the Andaman and Nicobar region during the week.
