IndiGo Flight From Visakhapatnam Makes Emergency Landing in Delhi Airport

Date:

An IndiGo flight carrying 161 passengers made an emergency landing at Indira Gandhi International Airport on Saturday morning after a technical issue was reported in one of its engines, prompting authorities to declare a full emergency as a precaution.

Officials said the alert was received at around 10:54 a.m., following which fire tenders were immediately dispatched to the airport. The aircraft landed safely, and all passengers were evacuated without any reported injuries or damage, according to the fire department.

The flight, identified as 6E 579, was operating on a Boeing 737 aircraft and was travelling from Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh to Delhi. The aircraft had been wet-leased by IndiGo from Turkey-based Corendon Airlines as part of its temporary operational arrangements.

In a statement, the airline said a technical snag was detected shortly before landing. The pilots requested priority landing in line with standard operating procedures. The aircraft subsequently landed safely, and authorities were informed as per protocol. The airline added that the aircraft has been taken for inspection and necessary maintenance.

IndiGo stated that the safety of passengers and crew remains its highest priority.

Separately, the airline issued a travel advisory on Saturday, citing adverse weather conditions in Aizawl. It said heavy rainfall and thunderstorms were continuing in the region, affecting road conditions and potentially disrupting travel schedules. Passengers were advised to check flight status before departure and allow additional travel time due to possible traffic delays.

Meanwhile, shares of IndiGo’s parent company, InterGlobe Aviation Ltd, closed at Rs 4,102.10 on Friday, registering a decline of over 4 per cent on the Bombay Stock Exchange.

The emergency landing adds to a series of precautionary aviation responses where standard safety protocols are activated to mitigate risk and ensure passenger safety during technical anomalies.
