India, China Agree to Expand Trade and Economic Cooperation, Strengthen Bilateral Relations

Date:

Beijing, July 7: India and China have agreed to intensify efforts to expand cooperation in trade, the economy and people-to-people exchanges while reaffirming their commitment to building stable and mutually beneficial bilateral relations in line with the vision of the leaders of both countries.

The understanding emerged during a meeting between India’s Ambassador to China, Vikram Doraiswami, and China’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hua Chunying, in Beijing on Monday. The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral engagement and advancing cooperation across key sectors.

According to the Embassy of India in China, both sides agreed to work towards fully implementing the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping for stable and mutually beneficial relations that deliver tangible benefits to the people of both countries.

The two sides also exchanged views on expanding cooperation in trade, economic engagement and people-to-people exchanges as part of broader efforts to strengthen bilateral ties.

During the meeting, Ambassador Vikram Doraiswami welcomed Hua Chunying’s assurance of China’s support for India’s BRICS Presidency, according to the Embassy’s statement.

The latest diplomatic engagement follows a series of high-level interactions between the two countries aimed at sustaining dialogue and improving bilateral relations.

Last month, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi and conveyed China’s readiness to work with India to implement the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries.

According to the Chinese side, Wang Yi stated that China was prepared to enhance mutual trust, address differences appropriately, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation and maintain the positive momentum in bilateral relations while advancing the modernisation goals of both countries.

During the meeting with the Prime Minister, Wang Yi also stated that India and China, as the two largest developing countries and key members of the Global South, should play an exemplary role in promoting solidarity and self-reliance among developing nations.

China also reiterated its support for India’s role as the rotating Chair of BRICS and expressed its willingness to work with India to advance cooperation within the grouping.

Separately, Wang Yi held discussions with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval on the sidelines of the BRICS National Security Advisors Meeting in New Delhi. During those talks, both sides reviewed recent developments in bilateral relations and noted progress towards the gradual normalisation of ties.

The latest round of diplomatic engagements reflects continued efforts by both countries to maintain dialogue and strengthen cooperation across trade, economic and multilateral platforms while working towards stable bilateral relations based on the consensus reached by their respective leaders.
