Illicit Liquor Worth Large Quantity Seized From Billiground Market Shop

Date:

Police at Billiground Police Station seized a large quantity of illicit liquor from a shop in Billiground Market on December 16, 2025, and initiated legal proceedings against a local shopkeeper for alleged unauthorised storage and sale of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL).

According to police sources, the action was taken following specific intelligence inputs indicating illegal liquor activity at a shop in the market area. Acting on the information, a special police team carried out a search operation at the premises under the supervision of senior officers.

During the search of the rear portion of the shop, police recovered a substantial quantity of company-sealed IMFL bottles. The seized stock included 88 bottles of 750 ml, 64 bottles of 375 ml, and 39 bottles of 180 ml, collectively amounting to a significant volume of liquor allegedly stored without authorisation.

The liquor was seized from the possession of the shopkeeper, identified as Anup Goshal, a resident of Billiground. During questioning, the accused reportedly failed to produce any valid permit or licence to account for the possession and storage of the seized IMFL, police said.

Following the seizure, the liquor was taken into police custody and a case was registered against the accused under relevant provisions of the Excise Regulation. Further legal procedures are underway, and the investigation into the source and intended distribution of the liquor is continuing.

Police stated that the search and seizure were conducted in accordance with established legal procedures after receiving credible information. Officials said such actions form part of ongoing efforts to monitor and curb unauthorised liquor trade in the district.

Authorities have reiterated that illegal storage and sale of liquor violate excise laws and pose regulatory and public order concerns. Police said enforcement measures would continue based on intelligence inputs and complaints received from the public.

Members of the public have been urged to report information related to illegal liquor trade or other unlawful activities to their nearest police station or through emergency helpline numbers. Police assured that the identity of informers would be kept confidential as per procedure.
