Golden Temple Bomb Threat: Punjab Police Detain Suspect from Faridabad

Date:

A man identified as Shubham Dubey, an unemployed software engineer, has been detained by Punjab Police in connection with multiple bomb threats targeting the Golden Temple in Amritsar. The arrest was made in Faridabad, and the investigation is currently in an advanced stage, Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Bhullar informed the media on Friday.

The threats, sent via email to the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), mentioned possible RDX blasts at the revered Sikh shrine. Authorities have registered two FIRs in the matter and significantly ramped up security at the Golden Temple complex.

SGPC chief Harjinder Singh Dhami confirmed that the committee has received at least five such emails since July 14, prompting swift action by law enforcement agencies. The SGPC manages gurdwaras, including the Golden Temple, also known as Harmandir Sahib, considered the holiest shrine in Sikhism.

In response to the threats, Bomb Disposal Squads, SGPC’s own task force, and additional police personnel have been deployed to secure the premises and ensure the safety of devotees.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann chaired a high-level meeting with senior police officials, including Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, to review the situation. In a statement posted on X, Mann emphasized the state’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding religious sites and urged citizens not to believe in or spread rumours.

“We will not allow any compromise on the security of Punjab,” Mann said. “Anti-national and anti-social forces will be dealt with utmost strictness.”

Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan also condemned the threats, asserting that such attempts to incite fear and disrupt communal harmony would not succeed. He reiterated the government’s zero-tolerance stance against those seeking to destabilize peace in Punjab.

“Terrorism has no religion, and those behind these acts will be brought to justice,” Sandhwan said.

Security remains tight in and around the Golden Temple as investigations continue.
