Sri Vijaya Puram, July 22: A late-night anti-narcotics operation in Sri Vijaya Puram led to the seizure of 2.145 kg of ganja and the arrest of a 41-year-old man, with investigators now probing the suspected supply network behind the recovered contraband.
The Anti-Narcotics Police Station (ANPS), CID, conducted the operation on the night of July 20 at CARI Road, Bathu Basti after receiving specific intelligence about the alleged possession of ganja intended for sale in the local market.
According to police, the raid targeted the rented residence of Shyamapada Mandal, a private labourer, following surveillance and verification of the information received. After completing the prescribed legal formalities and in the presence of two independent witnesses and the house owner, the search team recovered 2.145 kg of suspected ganja from the premises.
The seized substance was examined using a Drug Detection Kit, which confirmed it to be ganja. The contraband was subsequently seized, and Shyamapada Mandal was arrested under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
Police said the operation was launched after credible intelligence indicated that narcotic substances were allegedly being stored for distribution in the local market. Investigators are now examining the source of the seized contraband and attempting to identify others who may be linked to its supply and distribution.
The raid was carried out by a team led by Inspector K. Binoj, Station House Officer, Anti-Narcotics Police Station. The team included SI Deva Raju, ASI Sanjay Yadav, HC (SG) Ratan Das, PC M. Raja Rao, PC Anup Das, PC Basarat Ali, LPC Tamil Selvi and PC (D) Samir Kr. Dey. The operation was conducted under the supervision of Suma Madda, DANIPS, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Narcotics).
Police stated that all mandatory legal procedures under the NDPS Act were followed during the search and seizure process. Independent witnesses were associated with the proceedings before the search was conducted inside the rented house.
The investigation remains underway to establish the origin of the seized narcotic substance and determine whether the accused had links to a wider drug trafficking network.
The Anti-Narcotics Police Station has appealed to the public to share information relating to drug trafficking and substance abuse with the police so that appropriate action can be taken under the law.
