Sri Vijaya Puram, October 2: Lieutenant Governor Dinesh Sharma and Member of Parliament Bishnu Pada Ray called on people of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands to uphold the ideals of truth, non-violence, peace, harmony, cleanliness and service to humanity on the 157th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
In separate messages, Sharma extended greetings to the people of the islands and recalled Gandhi’s enduring message of truth, non-violence, peace and selfless service.
Sharma said the principle of ahimsa had guided India’s freedom struggle and continued to carry a universal message of peace, harmony and human dignity. He urged people to reaffirm their commitment to Gandhian values and uphold them through their lives and actions.

The Lieutenant Governor also expressed hope that the Andaman and Nicobar Islands would continue to progress along the path of peace, prosperity, harmony and sustainable development, guided by the principles of truth and non-violence.
Ray paid tribute to Gandhi and recalled his emphasis on truth, non-violence, simplicity, self-discipline and service to humanity. He called upon people to translate these values into everyday conduct by respecting one another, maintaining peace and harmony, helping the poor and needy, keeping their surroundings clean and working collectively for the welfare and development of society and the nation.
Ray also stressed the importance of making truth, cleanliness, compassion and service part of daily life. He called for collective efforts towards building a clean, peaceful, united and self-reliant India.
The messages highlighted the continuing relevance of Gandhi’s principles, with emphasis on translating ideals of truth, peace, compassion, cleanliness and service into individual conduct and collective action.
