Sri Vijaya Puram, May 7: The Andaman and Nicobar Islands Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (BOCW Welfare Board) will organize short-term Skill Development Training Programmes for registered construction workers and their dependents under the Model Welfare Scheme for Building and Other Construction Workers and the Action Plan for Strengthening Implementation Machinery issued by the Ministry of Labour and Employment, New Delhi.
The initiative is being launched in collaboration with the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) under the Andaman and Nicobar Administration with the objective of helping beneficiaries upgrade their existing skills and acquire new technical expertise for improved employment opportunities.
According to officials, the training programmes will be conducted in eight different construction-related trades and will be provided free of cost to all eligible registered beneficiaries and their dependents.

The trades identified for the training programme include Brick Mason, Mason Concrete, Assistant Shuttering Carpenter, Shuttering Carpenter, Assistant Scaffolder – System, Assistant Electrician, Construction Painter and Decorator, and Assistant False Ceiling and Drywall Installer.
The duration of the training programmes will vary according to the selected trade. The Brick Mason and Assistant Scaffolder courses will have a duration of 330 hours each, while Mason Concrete and Assistant Electrician courses will run for 390 hours.
Similarly, the Construction Painter and Decorator programme will have a duration of 420 hours, the Assistant False Ceiling and Drywall Installer programme 360 hours, and the Shuttering Carpenter course will be conducted for 570 hours.
Officials stated that the training programmes are aimed at improving employability and technical competency among construction workers while also creating opportunities for dependents to acquire professional skills in the construction sector.
On successful completion of the training programmes, certificates will be issued to the beneficiaries and dependents who complete the courses, which could help them secure better employment opportunities in both government and private sectors.
The Welfare Board has invited applications from all registered beneficiaries and their dependents interested in undergoing training in any of the listed trades. Applicants have been asked to mention the trade in which they wish to enroll while submitting their applications.

Officials said the initiative reflects the Administration’s continued focus on strengthening vocational training and skill enhancement opportunities for workers engaged in the construction sector across the Islands.
The Board has also urged eligible beneficiaries to make full use of the opportunity to enhance their technical capabilities and improve their future livelihood prospects through certified training programmes.
