Andaman Electricity Department Opens 39 Apprentice Posts for Engineers

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, May 28: The Electricity Department of the Andaman & Nicobar Administration has invited applications for apprenticeship training under the Apprentices (Amendment) Act, 1961, offering opportunities for engineering graduates and diploma holders across the Islands.

According to a press release issued from Sri Vijaya Puram on Tuesday, the Department will engage a total of 39 apprentices for a one-year training programme in various technical disciplines related to the power sector.

Out of the total vacancies, 15 positions have been earmarked for graduate apprentices while 24 seats are available for diploma apprentices. Eligible candidates possessing Degree or Diploma qualifications in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical and Electronics Engineering from recognized institutions can apply for the programme.

Officials stated that the apprenticeship engagement is purely training-oriented and temporary in nature. The Department clarified that completion of the apprenticeship will not guarantee permanent or temporary employment in the Electricity Department.

The selected apprentices will receive monthly stipends during the training period. Graduate apprentices will be paid Rs. 12,300 per month, while diploma apprentices will receive Rs. 10,900.

The Administration stated that apprentices may be posted in power houses, transmission and distribution subdivisions, workshops or departmental offices located across different islands of the Union Territory. During the training period, apprentices will function under the administrative control of the Superintending Engineer of the Electricity Department.

The Department has also specified eligibility restrictions for applicants. Candidates who have already undergone apprenticeship training under the same scheme, or those possessing one year or more of job experience, will not be eligible. Similarly, candidates whose earlier apprenticeship contracts under Government of India schemes were terminated for any reason have also been declared ineligible.

Officials added that applicants must register themselves within three years of passing the qualifying examination in order to become eligible for enrolment under the apprenticeship scheme.

Interested candidates have been directed to register online through the National Apprenticeship Training Scheme portal. After enrolment, applicants must apply online for apprenticeship opportunities posted by the Electricity Department.

Authorities informed that the apprenticeship opportunities will remain available on the portal for approximately one month, tentatively from May 8 to June 7, 2026.

Shortlisted candidates will subsequently be called for document verification. During verification, candidates will have to produce original documents along with self-attested copies of educational certificates, proof of age, employment registration card, Aadhaar card, PAN card, bank passbook and passport-size photographs.

The Electricity Department has reserved the right to finalize appointments at its discretion without assigning reasons or issuing further notice.

Officials reiterated that the apprenticeship programme is aimed at providing technical exposure and practical training to young engineers and diploma holders, helping them gain field-level experience in the power sector.

The initiative is expected to benefit students and fresh graduates seeking industry-oriented training opportunities in government infrastructure services. Apprentices are likely to receive hands-on exposure in electricity generation, distribution systems, maintenance operations and technical administration.

The Administration further stated that selected candidates could be deployed anywhere across the three districts of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands depending on departmental requirements.

Eligible candidates have been advised to carefully complete their online applications and upload all required documents, as incomplete profiles may not be considered during the selection process.
