New Delhi, July 10: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued a warning to IndiGo after an audit found deviations from prescribed standard operating procedures and provisions of the Aircraft (Carriage of Dangerous Goods) Rules, 2026, following a cargo spillage incident reported after one of the airline’s flights landed earlier this year. The regulator has directed the airline to submit a detailed action taken report outlining corrective measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The action follows an incident detected in January 2026, when cargo spillage was noticed on the ground after the arrival of an IndiGo flight. A subsequent regulatory audit identified procedural lapses, prompting the DGCA to issue a warning letter, which InterGlobe Aviation, the parent company of IndiGo, received on July 8.
The company disclosed the development in a regulatory filing submitted under Regulation 30 of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements.

According to the filing, the DGCA has asked the airline to explain the corrective steps being taken to ensure compliance with safety procedures and prevent recurrence of similar operational lapses.
InterGlobe Aviation acknowledged that it delayed informing the stock exchanges about the warning letter. The company attributed the delay to an internal communication gap and stated that the disclosure was not intentionally withheld.
“The delay in disclosure was unintentional and was caused due to a delay in internal communication of details pertaining to receipt of the aforementioned letter,” the filing, signed by Company Secretary and Chief Compliance Officer Neerja Sharma, stated.

The airline also clarified that the regulator’s communication does not impose any financial penalty, operational restriction or other sanction. It maintained that the warning letter has no significant impact on the company’s financial position, business operations or other activities.
The regulatory action comes at a time when InterGlobe Aviation has reported a sharp deterioration in its quarterly financial performance. The company posted a consolidated net loss of Rs 2,536 crore for the fourth quarter of FY26, compared with a net profit of Rs 3,068 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year. Revenue from operations, however, increased marginally by 1 per cent year-on-year to Rs 22,438 crore.
The DGCA’s latest action places the focus on operational compliance and adherence to aviation safety procedures, with the regulator seeking assurances that corrective measures are implemented to prevent similar incidents in future.
