Sri Vijaya Puram, June 15: The admission process for several technical and professional programmes in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands has entered a crucial phase, with the Administration inviting online applications for diploma, degree and lateral entry courses offered by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Institute of Technology (DBRAIT), Sri Vijaya Puram, and Government Polytechnic, Diglipur, for the academic year 2026-27.
Officials have announced that applications will be accepted exclusively through the online admission portal from June 2 to June 20, providing aspiring students with an opportunity to secure seats in some of the islands’ key higher education and technical institutions.
The admission notification covers diploma programmes affiliated with the Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education (MSBTE), degree programmes under the Netaji Subhas Open University framework, and lateral entry admissions into diploma and engineering degree courses at DBRAIT.
Government Polytechnic, Diglipur, which offers diploma programmes under MSBTE, is also part of the admission process. Candidates seeking technical education opportunities in engineering and related disciplines have been advised to complete their applications well before the closing date.
According to the notification, no applications will be accepted directly at the institutions. Authorities have made it clear that the online admission portal will remain the sole mode for submission of applications, underscoring the Administration’s continued emphasis on digital governance and streamlined admission procedures.
Students and parents have also been informed that no extension of the application deadline will be granted beyond June 20. The announcement is expected to prompt candidates to complete registration, upload required documents and verify their details within the stipulated period.
Educational institutions across the islands have witnessed growing demand for technical and professional courses in recent years as students increasingly seek opportunities in engineering, technology and skill-based disciplines. DBRAIT, the premier engineering institution in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, continues to attract a large number of applicants from different parts of the archipelago.
The availability of lateral entry admissions is expected to benefit diploma holders seeking to continue their academic progression into degree-level engineering programmes. Such pathways have become increasingly important in enabling students to pursue advanced technical qualifications without duplicating years of study.
Officials noted that the online admission system is designed to simplify the process by enabling applicants to submit forms, upload certificates and track application status remotely. The system also helps reduce paperwork and administrative delays while ensuring greater transparency in admissions.
For many students residing in remote islands and rural areas, online admissions offer easier access to educational opportunities without the need for repeated travel to institutional campuses. Authorities have encouraged applicants to carefully read eligibility criteria and programme details before completing the registration process.
Education sector observers note that technical and professional education remains a key focus area for the islands, particularly as emerging industries and infrastructure projects generate demand for skilled manpower. Institutions such as DBRAIT and Government Polytechnic play a significant role in preparing local youth for careers in engineering, technology and allied sectors.
The Administration has urged eligible candidates not to wait until the final days of the application period, as heavy traffic on the portal or incomplete documentation could delay submissions.
Students seeking clarification regarding admissions, eligibility or application procedures may contact the designated helpline numbers during working hours between 9 am and 4 pm from Monday to Saturday.
With less than a week remaining before the deadline, aspirants across the islands are expected to intensify preparations as they compete for seats in the upcoming academic session.
