Victim Alleges Husband Attacked Her with Dao after Forcing Entry into Rented House in Chouldari

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, May 26: A 33-year-old woman from Chouldari has alleged that her estranged husband attempted to kill her with a dao after forcibly entering her rented residence on Sunday afternoon, leaving her injured on the thigh.

According to the statement given by the victim, she had been living separately from her husband along with her two sons for the past one-and-a-half months due to repeated domestic disputes and alleged threats linked to his drinking habit.

The woman, who works at a private restaurant in Chouldari, stated that her husband was a habitual drunkard and frequently engaged in fights after consuming alcohol. She alleged that he had repeatedly threatened to kill her in the past as well.

In her statement, the victim said that on May 25 at around 10.30 am, while returning home from work, her husband allegedly confronted her near the State Bank of India branch in Chouldari in an intoxicated condition and threatened to kill her.

She stated that she ignored the threats and returned home, where she completed household chores before resting.

However, at around 2 pm, her husband allegedly arrived at the rented house and began banging on the door while shouting that he would kill her. Fearing for her safety, she immediately contacted her elder son and informed him about the situation.

Before any help could arrive, the accused allegedly broke open the door and entered the house carrying a dao in his hand.

The victim alleged that upon seeing the weapon, she attempted to flee, but her husband caught hold of her and tried to strike her in the stomach with the dao.

She stated that she managed to evade the direct blow, but the weapon struck the thigh of her left leg, causing severe bleeding.

According to the statement, she then pushed her husband away, causing him to fall, and fled from the house to seek shelter at a neighbour’s residence.

The woman alleged that after entering the neighbour’s house, she narrated the incident, following which the door was locked from inside for safety.

She further stated that after some time, when the noise outside subsided, the neighbour went out to check the situation. The victim said she could not recall events clearly after that point.

The woman alleged that she sustained serious injuries in the attack and demanded strict legal action against her husband.

The incident has once again brought focus on violent domestic disputes and machete-related assault cases reported in parts of the islands in recent months.

Earlier this year, a student of Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya was allegedly killed by his father in a violent machete attack at their residence in Seven Hills Colony, Calicut. In that case, police arrested the accused, an employee of the Andaman Public Works Department, and registered a murder case following the death of the student at G.B. Pant Hospital.

According to police records in the earlier case, the incident reportedly followed a heated domestic argument inside the residence before escalating into a fatal assault involving multiple blows from a sharp weapon. The victim later succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Investigators in that case had also carried out forensic examination of the scene and initiated a detailed probe into the circumstances surrounding the attack.

Residents in the area said the latest Chouldari incident created panic among neighbours, particularly due to the alleged use of a sharp-edged weapon during the assault.

Police are expected to examine the statement, medical findings and witness accounts as part of the investigation into the latest incident.
