Tourism Calendar Unveiled to Showcase Year-Round Island Attractions

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, June 6: The Andaman and Nicobar Administration has unveiled a comprehensive Tourism Calendar for 2026-27, outlining a series of events and attractions planned across the islands over the coming months as part of efforts to strengthen tourism and encourage year-round visitor engagement.

The calendar was launched by D K Joshi, who also serves as Vice-Chairman of the Islands Development Agency, during a function held at Lok Niwas in Sri Vijaya Puram.

According to officials, the Tourism Calendar covers the period from June 2026 to April 2027 and is intended to provide tourists, tour operators, hospitality businesses and other stakeholders with advance information about events scheduled across the islands.

The initiative seeks to improve tourism planning while also drawing attention to attractions beyond the traditional peak season.

The Administration said the calendar has been designed not only to promote well-known destinations and festivals but also to showcase the cultural diversity, heritage and natural attractions of the islands throughout the year.

Officials believe the advance publication of events will help tourists plan itineraries more effectively while providing tourism businesses with greater certainty in scheduling packages and promotional activities.

One of the key objectives of the calendar is to encourage visitors to explore the islands during the monsoon months, a period that has traditionally witnessed lower tourist arrivals compared to the winter season.

Tourism authorities noted that the monsoon season offers unique experiences, including lush landscapes, seasonal biodiversity and cultural events that often remain overlooked by visitors.

By presenting a structured calendar of activities, the Administration hopes to distribute tourist arrivals more evenly across the year and reduce seasonal fluctuations affecting the tourism industry.

The launch event was attended by the Chief Secretary of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration along with senior officials from various departments, including the Administration, Police and Forest Department.

The presence of multiple departments reflected the cross-sectoral nature of tourism development in the islands, which involves infrastructure, environmental management, law enforcement, transport and cultural promotion.

Tourism remains one of the most important sectors of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands economy, supporting employment in hospitality, transport, water sports, handicrafts and other allied services.

Over the years, the Administration has introduced a range of initiatives aimed at improving visitor facilities, promoting new destinations and enhancing tourism infrastructure.

Officials have also been working to diversify tourism offerings beyond conventional beach-based activities by promoting eco-tourism, adventure tourism, heritage tourism and community-based tourism experiences.

The Tourism Calendar is expected to support these efforts by providing a consolidated platform highlighting various events and activities scheduled across different parts of the archipelago.

Industry stakeholders have often sought greater advance information regarding government-supported events, festivals and tourism programmes to facilitate better planning and marketing.

The publication of the annual calendar is expected to address this requirement while also helping visitors align travel plans with specific events of interest.

The Administration stated that the calendar reflects the islands’ rich cultural traditions and natural assets while encouraging sustainable tourism practices.

Tourism planners have increasingly emphasized the need to balance visitor growth with environmental conservation, particularly in ecologically sensitive destinations across the archipelago.

Officials believe that promoting travel throughout the year rather than concentrating arrivals during a limited peak season can help improve resource utilization and create more stable economic opportunities for local communities.

The launch of the Tourism Calendar comes as the Administration continues efforts to position the Andaman and Nicobar Islands as a leading tourism destination in the Indian Ocean region.

With events now mapped out through April 2027, tourism stakeholders are expected to use the calendar as a planning tool for attracting visitors and showcasing the diverse experiences available across the islands throughout the year.
