Sri Vijaya Puram, May 20: The Sound and Light Show at the National Memorial Cellular Jail in Sri Vijaya Puram has been temporarily suspended for repairs and technical improvements, authorities said on Monday.
The announcement was issued for the information of tourists and the general public visiting one of the Islands’ most prominent historical and tourism landmarks.
Officials stated that the suspension was necessary to undertake repair works and technical upgrades associated with the show infrastructure. However, no timeline has yet been announced for the restoration of the programme.
Authorities said the date for resumption of the Sound and Light Show would be notified once the repair and improvement works are completed.
The Sound and Light Show at Cellular Jail remains one of the major attractions for visitors to the Islands, narrating the history of India’s freedom struggle and the role of the colonial-era prison through audiovisual presentations.
The temporary suspension is expected to affect evening tourist schedules, particularly during the ongoing travel season when the Cellular Jail complex draws large footfall from visitors arriving in Sri Vijaya Puram.
Tourists planning visits have been advised to keep track of official announcements regarding the reopening of the show.
The National Memorial Cellular Jail continues to remain open for regular daytime visits, while only the Sound and Light Show component has been suspended for the ongoing repair and technical work.
