The Andaman and Nicobar administration has invited online applications from eligible OBC students for a series of scholarship schemes designed to support education at different levels. The application process, open on the National Scholarship Portal since August 22, covers both fresh and renewal applications and will remain active until October 31, 2025.
The schemes include the Pre-Matric Scholarship for Classes IX and X, the Post-Matric Scholarship for OBC and EBC students beyond Class XI, the Dr Ambedkar Post-Matric Scholarship for Economically Backward Class students, and the Grant of Additional Scholarship (UT) for OBC students pursuing higher studies across India. Each of these schemes is aimed at reducing the financial burden on students from socially and economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
Key deadlines have been announced. While applications close on October 31, institutes will have until November 30 to complete verification processes, and district or state-level verification will continue until December 15. For some schemes, the verification deadline extends until the end of December. Applicants are advised to submit their forms well in advance to avoid technical delays.
Eligibility criteria vary across the scholarships. For pre-matric support, OBC students in Classes IX and X whose parental annual income does not exceed Rs. 2.5 lakh can apply. For post-matric and Dr Ambedkar scholarships, the income ceiling is the same but applies to studies after Class XI. The additional UT scholarship widens the bracket, allowing OBC students with parental incomes up to Rs. 8 lakh to pursue higher studies anywhere in India, excluding Classes XI and XII.
The scholarships are being disbursed through the National Scholarship Portal under the “Head State Scheme – Andaman and Nicobar.” Students must select the appropriate category while registering, particularly for the UT-level scheme which requires applicants to choose the “Incentive Scheme” option. Ensuring accurate registration is essential to avoid processing errors.
Applicants are reminded that bank accounts linked to the application must be active, Aadhaar-seeded, and compliant with banking requirements. Delays or errors in bank details often result in failed disbursements, a recurring issue in past years. Authorities have urged students to cross-check their financial information before submitting applications.
The scholarships are designed not only to support students with direct financial aid but also to encourage continued education among communities where drop-out rates are often linked to economic challenges. By offering assistance across secondary, higher secondary, and higher education levels, the schemes aim to cover different stages of academic progression.
