Andaman & Nicobar Administration Rolls Out Rs 3.49 Crore Water Supply Upgrade

Date:

The Andaman & Nicobar Administration has initiated a strategic Rs 3.49 crore infrastructure project aimed at strengthening the water supply network in Wimberlygunj. The undertaking involves laying a new pumping line connecting New Kalatang to Wimberlygunj, targeting chronic disruptions in the region’s water distribution system.

The project replaces the existing Galvanized Iron (GI) pipeline, which has been susceptible to frequent bursts and high maintenance costs. In its place, officials will install a modern three-layer Polypropylene Random Copolymer (PPR) pipeline designed to provide durability, reduce operational challenges, and improve long-term reliability.

By stabilizing the critical link between the Kalatang and Wright Myo pump houses, the upgrade is expected to benefit not only Wimberlygunj residents but also communities in Wright Myo, Mannarghat, and Nayapuram. The project will address recurrent water supply disruptions that have long affected daily life in these areas.

The development also includes the installation of high-specification Cast Iron (CI) double-acting air valves and flanged valves. These components are intended to optimize pressure management within the network, extend the lifespan of the pipeline system, and enhance overall operational efficiency.

Once completed, the water supply project will provide a seamless and reliable service to more than 7,821 residents, marking a significant milestone in the Administration’s efforts to ensure sustainable access to essential resources. Officials emphasize that the initiative forms part of a broader strategy to modernize and strengthen critical infrastructure across the Islands.

The Wimberlygunj pipeline upgrade demonstrates a shift toward resilient and future-ready utility systems, replacing outdated technology with engineering solutions designed for long-term performance. The Administration has prioritized this project to mitigate leakages, reduce maintenance costs, and enhance service delivery for households and local communities.

Authorities note that the project aligns with wider efforts to upgrade water infrastructure in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, addressing both technical inefficiencies and increasing demand due to population growth. Residents and local stakeholders are expected to experience immediate improvements in water availability and pressure once the new pipeline system becomes operational.

The project underscores the Administration’s commitment to modernizing essential services and investing in infrastructure that directly impacts the quality of life for Island residents. By combining advanced materials, robust engineering practices, and optimized pressure management systems, the initiative aims to deliver a sustainable, high-performance water supply network.

With its focus on reliability, efficiency, and long-term sustainability, the Wimberlygunj water supply project is positioned to set a benchmark for similar infrastructure initiatives across the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, ensuring uninterrupted access to water for residential, commercial, and public needs.
