Major Shake-Up in A&N Police Department: Over Two Dozen Officers Transferred Across Districts

Date:

In a major administrative overhaul, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Police Department has transferred over two dozen police officers and sub-inspectors, reshuffling key personnel across district stations and specialized units, including Cyber Crime, Anti-Narcotics, and Economic Offences.

The transfers, detailed in Order Book No. 51 dated 16 May 2025 from the office of the Director General of Police (DGP), include the redeployment of several Station House Officers (SHOs) and officers in sensitive divisions. The move aims to strengthen strategic policing and optimize manpower allocation across the union territory.

Among the key changes, Inspector Edith has been reassigned from the Security Cell to the Armed Police Unit at Police Line, while Inspector D. Jagdishwar Rao, formerly the SHO at Carnicobar PS, has been posted to the Crime and Economic Offences (C&EO) unit. Inspector K. Binoj transitions from the PMF Unit to lead the Ograbraj Police Station as the new SHO.

Notable district-level shifts include Inspector Rizwan Hassan’s transfer from Bambooflat PS to Swaraj Dweep and Inspector Abdul Sajid’s appointment as the new SHO at Mayabunder, moving from the Traffic Unit. Inspector Pritam Bihari, previously with the Anti-Narcotics Unit, has now been posted to Hutbay Police Station.

The reshuffle also includes strategic repositioning within cyber and anti-corruption cells. Inspector T. Hemavathi has been transferred from the Anti-Corruption Unit to SHO, Carnicobar PS, while Inspector Mohd. Sameer moves from Cyber Crime to Rangat PS.

Thirteen sub-inspectors are also impacted. SI Benedict will now serve in Nancowry, and SI P.M. Krishna Kumar has been transferred to the South Andaman district. SI P. Jeevan and SI P.R. Pradeep Dweep have been posted to Shaheed Dweep and South Andaman, respectively.

This reshuffle has prompted the DGP’s office to clarify that some previously issued transfer orders have been modified or temporarily held in abeyance. ASI Surya Narayan, initially posted to the N&MA District, will now join the Anti-Narcotics Unit. Orders concerning D. Mani Kumar, Satish Lall, and others have also been revised due to operational requirements.

Postings from earlier departmental orders issued in March and April 2025 have now been regularized. ASI Ram Babu and HC Anant Prakash, among others, have been posted to the Police Training School (PTS), Prothrapur.

These sweeping changes reflect the department’s commitment to strengthening law enforcement, boosting operational efficiency, and tackling key challenges in sensitive areas like the Nicobar district and the Anti-Narcotics division, a police official said.
