New Police Salary Package Offers Insurance, Loan Benefits to A&N Police

The Andaman and Nicobar Police have signed a revised and upgraded Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the State Bank of India (SBI) for a special Police Salary Package (PSP), aimed at providing enhanced banking services and welfare benefits to police personnel and their families.

The Police Salary Package is a dedicated scheme for the personnel of the Andaman and Nicobar Police. Previously, salary accounts were governed by an MoU signed in January 2023, which offered only basic privileges. The upgraded agreement ensures several additional advantages, reflecting a focus on the welfare of police personnel and their dependents.

Under the revised PSP, police personnel will now receive comprehensive personal accident insurance coverage, including a personal accidental insurance sum of Rs 110 lakh, permanent total disability cover of Rs 100 lakh, and permanent partial disability cover of Rs 80 lakh. The package also includes the SBI Rishtey Family Saving Account, which extends benefits to up to four family members.

The upgraded agreement offers preferential rates of interest on various SBI loans, along with waivers of annual charges and processing fees, ensuring financial relief for police personnel. In the event of a police personnel’s death, families will receive additional benefits including coverage of air ambulance expenses, child education costs, and support for the marriage of a girl child. Several benefits under the package are also designed to continue post-superannuation.

All benefits outlined in the revised MoU will be automatically extended to all personnel covered under the PSP, ensuring uniform access to insurance, financial, and welfare facilities. Officials have described the initiative as part of a broader welfare programme aimed at enhancing the financial security and overall well-being of the police force and their families.

The package demonstrates a structured approach to addressing the unique financial and personal needs of Andaman and Nicobar Police personnel. By combining insurance safeguards, loan facilities, and family welfare benefits, the PSP seeks to provide comprehensive coverage that extends beyond active service, giving personnel and their dependents long-term security and support.

The signing of the upgraded MoU underscores the administration’s commitment to improving the quality of services and welfare provisions for its police force. With the automatic inclusion of all eligible personnel, the package streamlines benefits and reinforces financial and social security measures across the board.

Officials from both the Andaman and Nicobar Police and SBI have highlighted that the move is part of ongoing efforts to modernise banking services for the police while integrating comprehensive welfare support. This initiative is expected to serve as a model for enhancing employee benefits and improving financial accessibility for government personnel in the region.
