Marathon Marks Rashtriya Ekta Diwas with 100 Students Participating in South Andaman

Date:

The District Administration of South Andaman conducted a “Rashtriya Ekta Run” marathon on March 29 to mark Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, drawing participation from around 100 college students and highlighting themes of unity, discipline, and community engagement.

The event featured two race categories, with a 10-kilometre run for boys and a 5-kilometre run for girls. Both routes began at Cellular Jail and concluded at Netaji Stadium, covering key stretches of the city. The boys’ race extended up to the Science Centre before returning, while the girls’ route covered a stretch up to Sea Cliff Hotel before looping back to the finishing point.

The marathon was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner Purva Garg, who addressed participants at the start, underlining the importance of physical fitness and collective participation in strengthening social cohesion. The event proceeded with coordinated arrangements, as students completed the run displaying consistent pace, discipline, and competitive spirit.

Officials said the run was organised as part of broader efforts to engage youth in activities that reinforce national integration while encouraging healthy lifestyles. The participation of students from various colleges reflected a coordinated outreach by the administration and associated departments to mobilise young people for civic initiatives.

Following the completion of the race, a prize distribution ceremony was held at Netaji Stadium. Winners securing first, second, and third positions in both categories were awarded prizes. All participants were also issued certificates in recognition of their involvement in the event.

Authorities noted that the initiative aimed not only to commemorate Rashtriya Ekta Diwas but also to provide a platform for youth engagement through sports. The structured format of the marathon, including designated routes and category-based participation, ensured smooth conduct and adherence to safety norms.

The administration acknowledged the role of the Education Department, MY Bharat, and other supporting agencies in facilitating the event. Their coordination enabled participation at scale and ensured logistical support across the race route and concluding venue.

The event concluded without incident, with organisers reiterating the importance of such public initiatives in fostering unity and encouraging participation in community-driven programmes. Officials indicated that similar engagements will continue to be promoted as part of efforts to involve youth in constructive and collective activities.
