Sri Vijaya Puram, July 28: Residents of North and Middle Andaman are set to benefit from improved public transport services after the Andaman and Nicobar Administration inducted five newly procured buses into the State Transport Service (STS) fleet on Monday. The move is aimed at strengthening connectivity, replacing ageing vehicles and improving access to safe and reliable transport, particularly for people living in rural and remote parts of the Union Territory.
The five buses were flagged off by Chief Secretary Chandra Bhushan Kumar in the presence of senior officers of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration. The induction forms part of the Transport Department’s ongoing efforts to modernise and expand public transport services across the Union Territory.
According to the Administration, the newly inducted buses will be deployed across various State Transport Service units in North and Middle Andaman. Their deployment is expected to augment the existing fleet while improving transport connectivity and providing safer, more reliable and comfortable travel for passengers.
The Transport Department stated that the addition of the new buses is intended to replace ageing vehicles currently operating in the fleet. The replacement is expected to enhance the operational efficiency of the State Transport Service, particularly in areas where public transport remains an essential mode of daily travel.
The Administration said the buses will primarily serve rural and remote locations in North and Middle Andaman, where residents depend heavily on public transport for commuting and accessing essential services. By strengthening the fleet in these regions, the department aims to improve the availability and reliability of transport services.
The induction of the buses forms part of the Administration’s broader initiative to modernise the State Transport Service and improve the quality of public transport across the Union Territory. Expanding the fleet is intended to support more efficient operations while addressing the transport requirements of island residents.
Officials said the initiative reflects the Administration’s continued focus on providing efficient, dependable and passenger-friendly transport services. The newly added buses are expected to support day-to-day transport operations by strengthening the existing fleet and improving service delivery across North and Middle Andaman.
