Sri Vijaya Puram, October 10: The Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC), India’s first and only tri-service command, has concluded its Silver Jubilee celebrations, marking 25 years of joint military operations, maritime security responsibilities and service to the nation through ceremonial events, community outreach and strategic discussions.
The celebrations across the islands brought together serving personnel, veterans, their families and local residents. Activities included medical camps, educational assistance, welfare initiatives, sporting competitions and outreach programmes across major and remote islands.
A joint services parade at Brichgunj Military Station on October 8 was among the key events, showcasing the traditions of the Indian Army, Indian Navy, Indian Air Force and Indian Coast Guard. The Commander-in-Chief of the Andaman and Nicobar Command reviewed the parade in the presence of former Commanders-in-Chief, veterans and other distinguished guests. The Command also presented unit citations and appreciation awards for distinguished service and exemplary contributions.
The ceremonial programme followed a wreath-laying ceremony at the War Memorial in Brichgunj on October 5, honouring personnel who died in the line of duty.
As part of the celebrations, the Command released a commemorative First Day Cover marking its 25-year journey and contributions to the country’s maritime security.
The anniversary also featured a Strategic Leaders’ Conclave themed “Future of ANC as a Strategic Frontier and Maritime Arc of Power”. Senior military leaders and distinguished dignitaries discussed the changing strategic significance of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and the Command’s future role.
Community programmes formed another part of the celebrations. Multi-speciality medical camps, educational assistance and welfare activities were conducted across the islands, while initiatives at orphanages extended support to children.
The Silver Jubilee Football Championship and the ANC Half Marathon drew participation from serving personnel and island residents, combining sporting activity with community engagement.
The celebrations also recognised veterans and personnel who have served the Command over the past 25 years, highlighting continuity across generations and the institution’s military traditions.
