Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 24: The Andaman and Nicobar Islands will mark World Tourism Day 2026 on September 27 with a series of programmes centred on digital innovation, responsible tourism and the use of Artificial Intelligence in tourism, alongside public, cultural and sporting events across the Islands.
The Directorate of Information, Publicity & Tourism (IP&T), A&N Administration, is organising the celebrations in collaboration with tourism stakeholders and allied departments. This year’s theme is ‘Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism’, with tourists, islanders, local youth and students among those expected to participate.
A digital component of the celebrations will include promotion of the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting’s “Gems of India” initiative. The programme will provide emerging creators, including talented youth from the Islands, an opportunity to showcase their creativity on a national digital platform.
The Department of Tourism has also organised a Bird Tourism Workshop and Bird Watching Programme with the Andaman Bird Tour Agency and students of JNRM on September 21 and 22. The activities focused on bird tourism, conservation and responsible eco-tourism.
A Tourism Promotional Video/Reels Competition has been announced, inviting 13-minute videos highlighting the Islands’ beauty, attractions and unique experiences. Entries were to be submitted by September 23, 2026, at 4 PM. Separately, a Tourist Convenience App Competition among DBRAIT students seeks to encourage digital solutions aimed at improving tourist convenience and visitor experience.
Sports and community activities will form another part of the programme. Beach Volleyball and Tug of War competitions for men and women are scheduled at Corbyn’s Cove Beach on September 25 and 27 in coordination with the Sports & Youth Affairs Department and tourism stakeholders. AATO will organise a Blood Donation Camp and Painting Competition and Art Showcase at Andaman Club in coordination with the Tourism Department and health authorities.
On September 27, tourists arriving at the airport, Swaraj Dweep, Shaheed Dweep and the National Memorial Cellular Jail will receive a traditional welcome from the Tourism Department in association with ANTOA. Selected museums, including Cellular Jail, Chatham Saw Mill, Samudrika Naval Marine Museum, Anthropological Museum and Fisheries Museum, will offer free entry as a goodwill gesture.
Cultural programmes will also be held at Corbyn’s Cove Beach in coordination with the Art & Culture Department on September 26 and 27 from 4 PM onwards.
The IP&T Directorate has invited tourists, islanders, tourism stakeholders, youth, students, sports enthusiasts and the general public to participate in the celebrations under the theme ‘Reimagining Tourism, Together’.
