Andaman to Host Two Ambitious Guinness World Records Underwater at Swaraj Dweep

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, April 30: The Andaman and Nicobar Administration will undertake two ambitious Guinness World Records title attempts involving large-scale underwater formations at Radhanagar Beach and near Swaraj Dweep Jetty, with scheduled activities on May 2 and May 3, 2026.

The first attempt, the “Largest National Flag Unfurled Underwater (60 m × 40 m; 2,400 sq. m.),” will be conducted at Radhanagar Beach, Swaraj Dweep, on May 2, beginning at 8:00 am. Certified scuba divers will participate in unfurling a massive Indian Tricolour underwater, marking a coordinated effort to achieve the record under controlled marine conditions.

The second attempt, the “Tallest Human Stack Underwater (20 metres height),” is proposed near the Lighthouse area at Swaraj Dweep Jetty on May 3, 2026. The formation aims to reach a vertical underwater stack of 20 metres, executed by trained participants under regulated safety protocols.

In view of the underwater record attempt near Swaraj Dweep Jetty, authorities have directed that the navigational channel for ferries approaching the jetty remain completely free of vessel movement from 8:00 am to 11:30 am on April 30 and May 3, 2026. The restriction has been issued to ensure safe and uninterrupted execution of the activity.

The administration has further instructed that FRP boats and all water sports operations in the Lighthouse navigational channel area remain suspended during the designated time window. The advisory is aimed at maintaining safety standards and ensuring smooth coordination of underwater activities during the record attempt.

According to an official press release issued by the Information, Publicity and Tourism Department, these two ambitious Guinness World Records title attempts have been planned with structured coordination between diving teams and administrative authorities.

Initially scheduled for an earlier phase, the programme was later revised, with the finalised dates set for May 2 and May 3, 2026. The events have drawn attention from diving professionals and participants preparing for the underwater challenges in the island territory.

The twin attempts are being organised as large-scale underwater activities in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, involving regulated participation and controlled maritime zones to facilitate record-setting conditions.
