Airports Fully Operational Despite Social Media Rumors, Confirms PIB

Date:

New Delhi, May 9: Brushing aside viral claims circulating on social media, the Press Information Bureau (PIB) on Thursday clarified that passengers are not barred from entering airports across India. All airports remain fully functional, despite heightened security protocols leading to longer queues and wait times.

The clarification comes in response to a wave of misinformation suggesting that airports were closing their gates to the public. The PIB’s Fact Check unit categorically stated there is no such ban in place and urged travelers to rely on verified information.

In light of the security ramp-up, airlines are advising passengers to plan their journeys with extra caution. IndiGo, India’s largest airline, has asked travelers to reach the airport at least three hours before departure, citing intensified security checks. Other carriers have echoed similar advisories, stressing the importance of carrying valid government-issued identification and accounting for extended check-in and screening times.

With the summer travel season nearing its peak, officials have appealed to the public to remain calm, avoid panic, and refrain from spreading unverified reports. While stricter security may cause delays, authorities emphasize that operations are running smoothly, and early planning will help ensure hassle-free travel.
