Sri Vijaya Puram, October 24: The Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) has advised citizens to transition to Aarogya Setu 2.0 after the ABHA App is discontinued in the production environment from October 31, 2026.
The advisory encourages residents to make the transition in advance to maintain access to digital health services, including the creation and management of Ayushman Bharat Health Accounts (ABHA) and access to digital medical records.
Aarogya Setu 2.0 is being presented as an integrated platform through which users can manage their digital health information and access a range of services. These include the secure sharing of health records with consent, digitisation of physical medical documents, appointment scheduling, teleconsultation and the discovery of healthcare facilities.
For residents of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, digital health services can provide an additional means of organising medical information and accessing participating healthcare facilities. The administration has said the transition will support the continued use of ABDM-enabled services and contribute to strengthening the islands’ digital health ecosystem.
One of the key functions highlighted in the advisory is the creation and management of an ABHA. The account provides a digital framework for individuals to maintain their health information and access records through participating services. Aarogya Setu 2.0 also supports the digitisation and management of medical documents, which can help users keep relevant information organised instead of relying exclusively on physical papers.
The platform includes facilities for appointment booking and teleconsultation, alongside tools to discover healthcare facilities. Wellness-tracking and other health-related features are also listed among its functions.
A further feature is the Scan and Share facility at participating healthcare institutions. Patients can scan a QR code displayed at a participating facility using the application and, with their consent, share their ABHA details to facilitate outpatient department registration.
The process is designed to streamline registration, reduce waiting times and improve patient flow and queue management. Its practical availability will depend on whether the healthcare facility participates in the system and supports the relevant digital process.
Consent-based sharing is an important element of the digital health framework described in the advisory. Citizens should understand what information they are sharing and ensure that they use the official application and appropriate consent options when accessing digital health services.
The discontinuation notice relates specifically to the ABHA App’s production environment from October 31. The announcement does not state that ABHA accounts themselves will cease to exist, nor does it announce the discontinuation of the broader Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission. Instead, it asks citizens to use Aarogya Setu 2.0 for continued access to the services described.
Residents who currently rely on the ABHA App are encouraged to make the transition well before the deadline rather than wait until the final day. They can use the new platform to manage their accounts and records and explore the digital facilities available through participating providers.
The shift highlights the growing role of digital platforms in the delivery and management of healthcare services. However, the usefulness of these tools will also depend on access to smartphones and internet connectivity, public awareness and the participation of healthcare institutions.
The ABDM has urged citizens to adopt Aarogya Setu 2.0 in advance to ensure a smoother transition and continued access to digital health services after October 31.
